Hancock County has many quality schools. In the 2007-2008 school year, 70.69% of Hancock County school-age children attended school districts rated as effective, 9.12% attended excellent schools, and 20.19 % attended schools rated as excellent with distinction. None of the school districts in Hancock County was rated as Continuous Improvement or Academic Emergency.

Between the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 school years, 5 out of 8 school districts changed their rating. Only one school district – Arcadia – improved its standing by moving from Effective to Excellent. Liberty-Benton and Van Buren moved down from Excellent with distinction to Excellent, McComb and Vanlue moved to Effective from Excellent with Distinction and Excellent respectively.

Nevertheless, Hancock County, by percentage, has twice as many Effective school districts as Ohio overall and almost 3% more have earned an Excellent with Distinction rating.
