During 2006-2008, the number of residents receiving services for mental health problems increased by 8% from 2,825 to 3,032 individuals. Among those cases, the number of residents with a severe mental illness increased by 4.2%.

Mental health problems affected males at a slightly higher rate than females: respectively 52.8% versus 47.2% of those receiving services. In 2008, there were 3,032 residents with mental health conditions. Of that total, 91.5% were white and 4.8% were African Americans. In addition, among 3,032 residents with mental health conditions, 133 or 4.4% were residents diagnosed with childhood disorders.

The top five diagnoses in 2008 were major affective disorder (862 cases), drug/alcohol abuse (717 cases), non-psychotic disorders (548 cases), adjustment problems (453 cases), and schizophrenia (180 cases).
