Between 2000 and 2007, two industries experienced substantial job-losses in Hancock County: Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting, & Mining lost 275 employees or 36.6% and, secondly, the number of Public Administration employees declined from 849 to 551 (35.1%). Also, the Wholesale Trade and Manufacturing sector lost 10.19% and 6.97% of its employees respectively.

Conversely, the Services sector demonstrated an enormous growth in the number of employees: an 84.35% increase between 2000 and 2007. The second-fastest growing sector is Professional, Scientific, Management, Administrative, & Waste Management: 40.76%. Also, Information and Informational Technologies grew signicantly by increasing 23% over the same period.

The fore mentioned changes significantly deviate from the employment trends in Ohio. For example, Ohio’s Information and Services sectors lost 16.76% and 1.53% of employees respectively; while the number of employees in Public Administration and Agriculture in Ohio declined only 6.48% and 0.78% respectively.

Overall, when averaged across the State of Ohio, industrial sectors experienced moderate to negligible growth or decline in the number of employees. When analyzed for Hancock County exclusively, most of the industrial sectors display extreme developments: decline or growth.
