In 2007, the overall Hancock County poverty rate was 6.2%, which was a 5.6% decrease when compared to the 2006 overall poverty rate. The poverty rate decreased consistently between 2006 and 2007 for each household type.
Single-female households in general and those with children under 18 or related children under 5 years old remain the groups with the highest rates of poverty: 36.1%, 38.3%, and 29.9% respectively.
In 2007, the overall poverty rate for all types of households in Hancock County was 3.5% lower than the rate for Ohio. The same was true for individual household types except for single-female households, which demonstrated a poverty rate 4.3% higher than the average rate for the respective group statewide.
Single-female households with related children under 18 reported the highest poverty levels in 2007 (54.6%). Within this population, households with related children under 5 years old had the highest poverty level at 78.3%.
