In 2007, the unemployment rate in Hancock County was a moderate 5.1% level with some variations by gender, age, and educational attainment.

A group of 16-19 year-old County residents had the highest unemployment rate of 19.8% while the rates for the rest of the age-groups varied between 0% and 7.2%.

The higher the residents’ level of education, the more likely they were to be employed. For example, in 2007, 2.9% of unemployed workers had a bachelor’s degree while the unemployment rate was 9.4% among the residents with less than high school education.

In 2007, unemployment rate among females was slightly lower than that of males: 4.7% and 3.9% respectively.
